My Writing from a
Marketing Perspective
Here is where you'll find my writing being used from a marketing angle.
This process involved research into the audience I'm trying to reach,
in order to successfully tweak my writing to bring
The Old Mill
Bed and Breakfast.
The Old Mill, Bed and Breakfast is a family-run B&B located in Biggar, Scotland.
In fact, it's actually a B&B run by my family in particular.
As mentioned in the "My Writing" page of my website, I've been fascinated with writing
for a good portion of my life. To me it's it's very own art form.
My family business allowed me to fully explore this art form in a way that brought on
real life effects. Here is a little breakdown of where my skills were applied within this business:

WEBSITE BUILDING
Here is a link to The Old Mill's website: biggaroldmill.com
Every aspect of this website was fully designed by me.
I made sure to fill the website with all the relevant information needed for viewers
to have a somewhat in depth understanding of the property as it stands today.
UI/UX.
Why is design important when it comes to website building? The answer is simple:
Visitors to a website appreciate both simplicity and substance.
The line between both these features is thin, but perfectly possible to combine.
Navigation should be intuitive. This is essential for a website. It gives visitors the ability to browse your website without too much brain power, all whilst simultaneously giving them enough information on your business to make an informed decision on whether or not to take action.
I took my time to ensure the site was rich with content and information, whilst being easy to navigate, responsive in it's design, and fruitful in it's objective to provide visitors with
SIMPLICITY AND SUBSTANCE.
Search Engine Optimisation.
The visual side of your website could be perfect. Rich with content, fancy designs,
and professionally took photos. Of course, this is a step in the right direction, but this alone
will lead your business nowhere. SEO is a huge part of building a website. Without it, your online presence would fade into obscurity. Lost in the realm of forgotten sites.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) involves delving into the technical side of your sites
inner workings. It's like a designer watch. It could be encrusted with gold, bejewelled with diamonds, but does it tell the time? Has the watch maker done his job? SEO is analogous to this.
You have to get technical with it.

SEO is broken down into a number of categories.
All of which I have done, and am capable of doing in the future.
On-Page SEO
Off-Page SEO
Technical SEO
Content SEO
Local SEO
CONTENT WRITING
Every word and letter found within The Old Mill's website is typed up by me.
The process of writing this type of content is both simple and complex in it's nature.
It involves precisely imprinting relevant information throughout the website, whilst simultaneously keeping keywords and SEO in mind.

I decorate each page with descriptions of the property. Writing in ways that pull the reader in,
and encourage them to search through every aspect of the website. Not out of frustration for finding the right info, but for intrigue into what's to be expected when spending a night at the B&B.

On top of this, I am also into control of the blog writing process. A process that involves not just writing about interesting aspects of the business, but it also involves a deep dive into historical analysis, cultural/locational connections, and personal reflections.
Here is a little insight into a few of my blogs for said business.

The Old Mill's Website Achievements
(29/08/2025)
The Old Mill's website was first published in December of 2024.
Since then, these are what the analytics look like:
49 Bookings
300 Website visitors/month (2642 in total)
A bounce rate of 32%
A conversion rate of 1.6%
Booking.com Platform

This aspect of my writing helps to showcase how I can deviate from the standard independent branding aspects, and can also focus on other areas of marketing that are situated within the realm of external platforms such as booking.com. Obviously my writing doesn't dictate how well
a property performs on platforms such as this one, but it does dictate how people will view said property based on the descriptions of the building and rooms, the amenities listed, and how the business came to be within the "information about the host" section.
Here is a rundown of our analytics on Booking.com since September 2024:
